23 Best Romantic Destinations for Valentine’s Day
08 February 2018
Most of the people appreciate Valentine’s Day a lot. Everyone knows that February has long been celebrated as month of romance and love. This is the time of the year when we will see romantic celebrations like exchanges of flowers, candies, and cards. Perfect opportunity to eat chocolate (while some can do this everyday), witness amazing floral arrangements, magical dinner dates here and there, all in the name of St. Valentine.
But if you’re still doing some travel plans this “Love” season, we got you here. We also believe that the best travel experience can be done solo and sharing it with somebody (or even with families and friends). This being said, we pulled together these world’s perfect destinations where you can take your romance a little step further. Places that are exotic and jaw-dropping with a little mix of city life, offbeat, culinary and cultural. Absolutely fabulous to spend Valentine’s Day.
With its beautiful cobblestone streets lined with cafes and restaurants, it is not hard to see why Portland has become one of the top romantic destinations in the USA.
Portland is a city that is filled with non-chain restaurants and shops, so you won’t end up eating at a Red Lobster. Try picking a popular street like Morrison Street, and wander until you find a cute little restaurant that you guys want to try out! Some of the best food is found by roaming the historic streets of Portland.
Biking is always a romantic date idea, and Portland has no shortage of beautiful biking trails and bike lanes to help you get around the stunning city. If you’re feeling adventurous, try renting a tandem bike for you and your significant other to ride through the city!
Around Portland, there are a ton of beautiful forests and waterfalls that are easily accessible for a romantic hike or nature walk. The stunning Multnomah waterfalls located just northeast of Portland are the among the most popular spots for a beautiful photo op with your spouse.
Portland’s unique charm proves that it is a one-stop place to spend your romantic getaway. Grab some fine wine, take a chocolate making class, then roam the beautiful gardens with your loved one this Valentine’s Day.
If I could pick a romantic getaway for Valentine’s Day it would certainly be Gili Air! My girlfriend and I went for just 3 days and loved it so much that we stayed a whole week! The Gili islands often get a bad rap and can be known for partying but the best part about Gili Air is that everyone heads over to Gili Trawangan for the party. That means that Gili Air is a couples paradise with beautiful beaches, romantic restaurants and all the coupley activities you can ask for.
Be ready for some beautiful sunsets as the sun sweeps past the distant Mount Batur, a volcano on Bali. You might need to ask someone to help you snap a romantic photo on these ocean swings but don’t worry, the Gili Air locals are incredibly friendly and accustomed to serving couples traveling through Indonesia. I hope you enjoy your tropical Valentine’s getaway on Gili Air.
One of our favourite places to visit as a couple is Berlin in Germany. As a gay couple, this is one of the best places in Europe to visit.
There’s a lot for couples to do in Berlin. There are many romantic hotels to base yourself. One of our favourites is Axel, which caters to the LGBTQ community.
Berlin has some beautiful sites, which are a delight to see by foot or bike together, such as the Brandenburg Gate and of course, remains of the Berlin Wall. There are also many highly rated restaurants to dine. Our favourite for a romantic meal is the Telecafe restaurant in the famous Berlin TV Tower, which revolves a full 360 degrees in 1 hour. It’s located at 207m (679 ft) in the air, making it the highest revolving restaurant in Germany. Get a place here at sunset for the best, most romantic experience in Berlin.
Make your way to New York City on Valentine’s Day to create the perfect date for you and your love. There are simple free things you can do like take a stroll around Central Park or hang out in time square watching lovers propose, get married or have vow renewals. For entertainment, make it to Broadway for a musical based on a love story. For a more erotic experience, you can go to the Museum of Sex. If you want to enjoy an amazing meal at a fine dining restaurant, most have special menus for the day like Gotham Bar and Grill, 4-course menu. Whatever your style or taste, you can find something romantic to bring you and your date closer in New York City.
The ever-popular Maldives is always on every couple’s bucket list. A taste of heaven on a secluded and beautiful island with the love of your life. Nothing beats spending time with your soulmate. #relationshipgoals
No doubt, Maldives is the number 1 choice for a perfect romantic destination. Here’s why:
-Location is P.E.R.F.E.C.T. Over a 1000 island resorts to choose from, everything is just away from the busy, buzzy city from where you come from. It’s just you, your partner and the overwater bungalow towering over the blue waters of Maldives.
-Lots of romantic things to do like long walks on the beach, diving, riding a bicycle alongside that iconic view and many more. Speaking of that view, isn’t it amazing to see the beautiful scenery where everything is a backdrop of your perfect Instagram photo?
Perhaps an exotic couple spa is a great romantic idea to pamper each other and relax in each other’s company. Just lying on the powdered white sand and stargazing at night turn on that sexy vibe as you and your partner catch up on anything under the beautiful stars. There are countless of reasons to fly to Maldives but this picture should get you booking flights now!
Dubai’s laws on public displays of affection may be strict, but don’t cross it off your list just yet. The desert climate in February is perfect – and there are many enjoyable couple-only activities. Get your hearts soaring in a private charter flight in a luxury seaplane over Dubai. Sail through the sunset on a private yacht towards Dubai’s glittering skyline. Dress to the nines and watch a show at Dubai Opera. Indulge in a wide array of romantic dinner options – Accents located across Dubai Marina is a good choice. Despite contrary beliefs, you don’t need to be married to book a hotel together. This is a glimpse at what Dubai offers to couples. Just remember to abide by their public decency laws.
While most people think of Paris as the quintessential romantic European city, my preference is definitely Lisbon.
Set over seven hills, the city of Lisbon is not as fast-moving city. It’s the kind of place that’s best explored through a leisurely stroll, stopping to indulge in bicas (espressos) and pastéis de nata along the way. Dotted around the city you’ll notice signposts for miradouros, which literally translates as “golden views” – spots around Lisbon that offer Instagram-worthy photos of the city. Most of these have benches and small cafes: romantic spots to relax and spend time together and just one of the reasons that I think Lisbon is such a great place to spend Valentine’s Day.
Italy is all about the romance: from its language to its landscapes to its food and wine, if you’re looking for a romantic getaway for Valentine’s Day, Italy is calling your name.
Whether you want to go hiking along the coastline in Cinque Terre, explore magnificent art in cities like Florence, Rome, and Milan, or simply find a villa in a small town with a beautiful view and busy yourself eating and drinking the days away with your beloved, there’s a version of Italy perfect for your romance.
Personally, an Italian Valentine’s Day for us would likely be spent in Tuscany, enjoying an indulgent, full five-course Italian meal complete with wine pairings, and later renting an elaborate suite or villa with an epic westward facing view of either Florence or the Tuscan countryside to enjoy the sunset from.
Tel Aviv is not the first city that comes to mind when thinking of Valentine’s Day. Yet, it has a lot to offer in terms of romance. Directly located on the shores of the Mediterranean, Tel Aviv is an incredibly lively city, with daily events, exhibitions and the possibility of getting involved in a myriad of activities. Couples looking for a bit of romance may head to the waterfront and the beach for a sunset walk. The views of Old Jaffa from there are stunning. Walking along the cobbled alleys of Jaffa or those of the trendy Neve Tzedek are good ways to enjoy the city atmosphere. To top this off, Tel Aviv has an incredible selection of restaurants and bars to have a lovely dinner.
Perhaps is that we visited this Southern Spanish region as a couple? Was the weather simply perfect in January? Did we have luck with the itinerary we planned for our Andalusia road trip? Maybe the affordable prices everywhere and lack of crowds helped us to connect more with each other in great accommodation spots? Is there a special charm to cities like Seville, Granada, and Cadiz that were touched by great civilizations that gave their buildings a unique and fascinating Arab feel? Speechless about how beautiful this land is, I can only ensure you that it is difficult to find a more dreamy destination to explore with your significant other on a budget.
It feels like a shame to visit Hoi An in Vietnam alone; most of this ancient town’s sights and sounds feel tailor-made for couples.
Whether you’re taking a cooking class with a local master (and eating your creations afterward); or walking down the narrow streets after dark, your paths lit only by colorful paper lanterns, or having dinner at one of the small, quirky restaurants that seem to be everywhere in the Old Quarter, Hoi An feels like a romantic dream of old Vietnam come alive.
Key sights to see when in Hoi An include: the Japanese Bridge (constructed by Japanese traders in the 16th century; one of Hoi An’s most iconic structures); the Fujian Assembly Hall (a relic of the Hokkien trading community that once had a strong presence here), and the Tan Ky House (a home/office of the Tan family dating back to Hoi An’s heyday). As motorized vehicles are banned in the Ancient Town, you’ll be walking all the way (holding hands, hopefully) while seeing these important sights.
The shophouses around Hoi An’s old quarter date back to the 18th century, when this riverside town was a trading port that attracted exporters from China, Japan, and as far away as Portugal. As nearby Da Nang rose in importance, Hoi An faded from the trade map. The wars that ravaged the rest of Vietnam fortunately passed over Hoi An, so the ancient shophouses (which bear influences from its former trading partners) remain untouched, except by the yearly floods from the river.
The romantic month of February fortunately avoids the annual monsoons, and brings cool and sunny weather for couples who visit this laidback, historic town in central Vietnam.
In our opinion, Costa Rica is one of the most amazing destinations for a Valentine’s day celebration, especially for couples looking for an adventurous, yet mindful getaway. Costa Rica is full of exciting activities to take yourself outside of your comfort zone and to connect with your loved one on another level. You can zipline through the rainforest, challenge yourself to whitewater rafting, try canyoning or horseback riding. It’s also a destination with some wonderful options to just relax and unwind. There are beautiful beaches, amazing waterfalls, and world-renowned hot springs where you can soak together in the most romantic setting.
You can indulge in Costa Rica’s delicious food, as there are lots of great restaurants offering local and fusion cuisine with locally sourced ingredients and fresh seafood. And at the end of the day, you can find lots of eco-friendly accommodation options that allow you not only to rest your head after a long day but to connect with nature and the beautiful surroundings.
One of our favourite ever romantic destinations is Holbox, its a beach lovers paradisiacal island off the northeastern coast of Mexico in the Yum Balum nature reserve. It’s also an excellent choice for Valentine’s Day as it’s warm year round, even through the winter months, with 300 sunny days a year and average daily max temperatures of 25 C (77 F). Aside from relaxing on the beach/ in your luxury accomodations, finding a meal or swinging side-by-side with your toes in the sand at a beach bar, there isn’t much else to do on this car-free (and carefree!) tiny island, except bask in the company of your special someone. To break this up you can do some (seasonal) wildlife or fishing tours, or just bring a good book for long lazy days of perfect romantic nothingness together!
Most couples would love to spend a romantic getaway in a tropical island, and Koh Lipe perfectly fits that bill. This island in the south of Thailand has amazing beaches (powder-like sand, aquamarine water) surrounded by lush jungle. Moreover, it is less crowded to its counterparts in the country and even Southeast Asia.
Life in Koh Lipe moves slowly, so you can savor every moment in this paradise. You can book a beachside accommodation and wake up with a view of the sea. You can do activities together such as island hopping or kayaking. You can watch beautiful sunsets at Sunset Beach and have a candlelit dinner at Pattaya Beach or other restaurant of your choice or have fun in several bohemian-themed bars.
Koh Lipe’s remoteness and beauty makes it an ideal option for honeymoon or occasions such as Valentines Day.
Singapore is a great Valentine’s Day destination for couples that enjoy large cities. The Singapore Botanic Gardens is one of most romantic places in Singapore to spend the day relaxing and enjoying the beautiful flowers and plants. For a night out, couples should visit the Gardens by the Bay and watch the nightly light and sound show at the futuristic and magical Supertree Grove. Other romantic things to do in Singapore include having a drink at the one of the rooftop bars at the iconic Marina Bay Sands hotel or taking a stroll on the waterfront promenade while enjoying impressive city views.
Seville in Spain is definitely one of the best Valentine’s Day Destinations. The city is perfect for a weekend getaway with just enough landmarks and activities to occupy two full days. The weather in Seville is good all year long. However, in winter it’s more pleasant to explore the city. As in summer, you will encounter strong heat. Thus, during the Valentine’s day you will probably expect something like 18-22 C (64-72 F) which is perfect temperature. One of the most romantic activities in Seville is the gondola ride next to the Plaza de España. It’s nothing compared to Venice, of course, but it’s a great activity to do in Seville. Also, you can enjoy the visit to the Alcazar and the stroll around it’s gardens afterwards and in the evening, enjoy an authentic Flamenco show!
I think Tbilisi is one of the most romantic cities I’ve ever visited, and it makes for a wonderful Valentine’s day destination! There are so many things to do in Tbilisi, including lots of unusual sights and activities – if you or your significant other love quirky stuff, this city is for you! For example, in Tbilisi you can enjoy hot sulphur baths at any time of the day and night, and you can zip line from the top of the fortress down to the botanical gardens! You can also explore eclectic Art Nouveau architecture, party in a Soviet swimming pool and have dinner in a secret restaurants with a rooftop winery. To make matters even better, Tbilisi is quite affordable and Georgian cuisine is delicious – even if you choose a fancy restaurant for your Valentine’s dinner, it won’t break the bank!
Valentine’s Day is around the corner and you might have been planning this special day with your lover or soul mate. Gifting a bunch of roses or a card or a candlelit dinner is fine but if your significant other is a travel lover like me gifting her or him a romantic trip would be fantabulous. Isn’t it!?
Well, I’m certain that India will leave you spoiled for choices when it comes to romantic getaways. Why not? After all, it’s a country that taught romance, sex (Kamasutra) and love to the world! Let me make your task easy by zeroing in on the best choice.
Kashmir, truly the Romantic Capital of India, spells LOVE. The blend of lush green meadows, snow-clad mountains, placid beautiful lakes and rumbling waterfalls make it a perfect place for couples. Take a romantic ride in one of the colourful shikaras in Dal Lake; walk lazily, hand-in-hand through beautiful Aru Valley, Indulge yourself in scenic long drive through Kashmir valley stippled with breathtaking views, and charming tiny villages; walk into the sunset arm-in-arm – the valley is sure to cast a love spell on you!
Hermitage Bay isa precious rare gem, your private blissful retreat, nestled in a tropical vegetation in one of the most beautiful private beaches in Antigua. The exceptional fine architecture meshing with the bucolic surroundings of the hills, the attentive service, the exquisite cuisine, and the holistic spa program are just a few hints of the unique experience that Hermitage Bay offers to its guests.
Whether you chose one of the hillside suites with private plunge pool with a beautiful soothing view of bay or a Beachfront suite right by the turquoise waters, Hermitage Bay will exceed your expectation without a doubt. Among all the luxury hotels that Antigua has to offer Hermitage Bay is definitely one of my favourite, either for a relaxing and rejuvenating holiday or a romantic escape.
Want to spend Valentines Day exploring one of South Africa’s least explored destinations? Hidden in the Amathole mountains of the Eastern Cape, lies one of the country’s smallest villages.
Some say that this magical forested area was the source of JRR Tolkien’s fantasy series Lord of the Rings. Some also believe that the land is home to magical creatures and beings. The locals here have embraced these myths full heartedly. You’ll find fairy coves, goblin souvenirs and someone that will eagerly tell you a folktale or two. But what makes this place so unique for couples is a backpackers called “Away With The Fairies”.
It boasts an outdoor bathtub that looks over a gorge. The water is heated by a small wood fire, and the backpackers provides you with eco-friendly bubble bath and body wash. All you need to do is bring along some delicious South African wine and watch the sun go down in one of the most romantic hidden getaways in the country.
There is no place where you can celebrate your love better than in Paris. Have a glass of champagne, long walks along the Seine or enjoy a stunning view over the city from the hills of Montmartre.
With its countless cute cafés and alleys, an amazing art and culture scene and food that is a fest for all senses, Paris is truly the city of love and joie de vivre. If you want to enjoy a special Saint Valentine’s dinner though, you gotta be quick: many restaurants are booked out long before this special date.
I’ll never forget the first time I saw a photograph of the floating river lodges at Mandina Lodges in The Gambia, excuse the cliché, but it was love at first sight. It was another ten years or so before I had the chance to stay there and it didn’t disappoint. I loved it so much that I recently returned on honeymoon and I’m pleased to say my husband fell in love too.
The lodges are sparsely furnished but with a luxurious four-poster bed in the centre of the room looking out across the water, there’s little else you need. An open-air ensuite bathroom enhances the feeling of reconnecting with nature that Mandina Lodges embodies
Coffee is brought to your lodge each morning, which we drank on our private decking, listening to the sounds of the forest on the banks of the river awake — it’s the perfect start to the day. Relax by the stunning pool, take a walk through the forest with a guide, head out on the river by canoe, however, you spend your time here, you will relax and unwind. There’s no Wifi, no flat screen TVs and with only nine lodges in total, very few people.
Mandina is a place where memories are created that you will treasure forever. What could be more romantic?
When people dream of honeymoons or spending a luxurious holiday away together, chances are Santorini sits at the very top!
This island, which is about an hour away from Athens, is picture-perfect and extremely romantic, despite the crowds! Even if the most common, photographed spots are occupied, there are many other places on the island that you can sneak away to, with your loved one and spend time watching some of the most beautiful sunrises & sunsets ever!
The food does not disappoint, and neither do the activities on offer. You can head off to the tiny dormant volcano next to the island and hike. You can also go sailing, fishing and even stay in offbeat spots like a windmill.
For the budget-friendly, there are many options to pick from too, so there’s something for everybody.
“Hold my hand, and I will go anywhere WITH YOU.”
23 destinations. That’s kind of a lot to choose from, and all of these are ridiculously stunning. Do you have any suggestions? Let us know at the comment section below.
Sending warm hugs and kisses to y’all.
