Look at this photo, isn’t it beautiful?!
Well, this is a panorama shot at El Nido, Palawan.
And yes, G&D went there.
“G&D, have you been to Underground River in Palawan?”
Well, the answer is Yes. (Even though I was showing this picture from El Nido. But since you mentioned about Palawan, we will tell you about our El Nido trip as well, fair enough?)
Okay. Underground River in Palawan, is the Subterranean River in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. One of the 7 Wonders of Nature. Beautiful and amazing part of nature where you could see dome of cave, rock formation, different kinds of bats and other marine animals, more river channels, another deep cave, and more. Ok, let me tell you a story. Before David and I met online, he was already planning to go to Vietnam or Thailand on his school break. But time went by, David finally decided to meet me and spend vacation with me in the Philippines.
Our plan was to stay in Manila for 3 days (coz I still had 3 days to report to work by that time, my work just granted me 7 days of vacation, and not 10 days), then 4 days in Palawan and 3 days in Manila again for David to meet my family,
(David, inside the MRT)
In Manila, after I worked, we spent time going to some places like in Rizal Park. I even asked David to try riding in one of the Train Lines in Manila, the Metro Rail Transit System (known as MRT in the Philippines) which is really crowded during work hours, well, there would be times that it’s not that crowded (try it when you’re in Manila).
After that, was our Palawan trip. Woohoo!
Our first stop was in Puerto Princesa, where we had our “Underground River Tour” reservation. We booked a reservation at “Subli Cabins”, and this place was so beautiful. It was a mistake that we didn’t research where this was. We were expecting it to be located in front of a beach and it wasn’t, but G&D learned from their mistake so we stayed calm and awesome.
These cabins are located in the heart of the city of Puerto Princesa. But it’s worth it, coz like what I’ve said, this place is so beautiful and welcoming. If you love to stay in a bamboo cabin and a camp-like setting in Puerto Princesa, “Subli Cabins” is a good spot. It’s just 10 minutes away from Puerto Princesa Airport, and they will pick you up from there.
Filipino meals are on their menu, and those meals are made-to-order. They also have affiliated tour business owners which could give you a discounted price (with service ride to the port) to visit “Underground River”, one of the “New 7 Wonders Of Nature”.
On our 1 night of stay there, we decided to check out the city, and we saw this restaurant named “Rusticana – Restaurant and Bar” and decided t o have our dinner there. The food was so delicious, tasty, hmmm. We had seafood that night, and wow, so yummy it was. We would love to go back there for sure.
A great restaurant to dig in when you visit Puerto Princesa.
Then on the next day, our Underground River Tour!
Our van picked us up from our cabin, David and I were set already, done with breakfast, took our showers, prepared our back-packs with our Asian & Bear shirts on.
On our way to the pier where we had to take our motorboat to the Subterranean River, we were able to pass by this forest where Pandora Tree from the movie Avatar could be seen. Also, we passed by this wide & beautiful area which was used to be one of the legs on Amazing Race Philippines and Amazing Race Ukraine.
When we reached the pier to take our boat, we could feel the excitement already. Especially when we were on the boat already, hearing the waves of the sea, those little islands, you would really say that beauty of nature is amazing.
The boat stopped on the shoreline, tada! Touchdown, we just stepped on the shoreline in one of the New 7 Wonders Of Nature! How does that sound?!
The line to get a boat with a tour guide wasn’t that bad. And even though you wait, I’m telling you, it’s worth it. From your tour guide who would give you a fun and informative ride, to those natural rock formations that you will see inside, again I’m telling you, it is worth it!
Then after the tour, had our motorboat ride back to the pier, ended it with a great lunch (which is part of tour package), then we headed back to our cabin, safe and sound. Just took a nap for like an hour, then we prepared to leave our cabin to get a service van to our next stop, to El Nido.
How about you? Tell us your experience when you went to Puerto Princesa, Philippines.
(Baby Monkeys at the Reception Area in Underground River)
They told us not to bring any shiny objects in our pockets or in our bags.
It’s because of those fast baby monkeys.
Look at him, he got a Gatorade bottle from a visitor. Cute. 🙂
